Elephant Safari - Zambia

Explore the wild on a higher level, riding the majestic Africa Elephant.

Elephant Safari in Livingstone, Zambia (picture from TripAdvisor)

Elephant back safaris are not only a good way to see game while on a much higher level than say a game drive vehicle but also offer a once in a lifetime insight into these gentle giants. Guests are encouraged to interact with these majestic and intelligent African mammals making it much more than just an Elephant ride.

In Livingstone, they start at Thorntree Lodge within the Mosi oa Tunya National Park. When you arrive, you are greeted with tea and coffee service and an introduction to the tour and important safety instructions. Then its time to meet the elephant handlers and the elephants of-course before mounting the magnificent beasts. You may request photographs and videos to be taken during your tour.

The elephant back trail takes you through the park and to the Zambezi River which you will cross in shallow waters. You will visit different islands and get the chance to spot other animals along the river. After going around the islands you will head back to the lodge and dismount. You will have some time to interact with the elephants and feed them while the guides tell you about the elephant's relationship and interaction with people. If you had ordered a video, you  may review it before leaving for your hotel.

There are morning and afternoon trips available. The morning trip sets off at 06h30 and returns at 11h00, and includes tea, coffee, juice and snacks. The afternoon trips begin at 14h45 and end at 18h00. These include soft drinks and snacks.

What you will need to bring
• US$10 National Park fees unless if you are staying at a hotel within the national park
• Wear neutral coloured clothing and comfortable shoes suitable for the bush
• Sunblock
• Hat
• Camera and/or binoculars
• Money for videos if you wish to have one taken

This activity is suitable for children 4 year old and above. Children under the age of 18 will need their guardian to sign a form for them.

All the activities lived up to the hype and I would like to thank you for all your help in organising a busy but full holiday for us! Everything went smoothly from the moment we arrived to the time we left.
Also wondering where you prefer to have your reviews written?

Fantastic Itinerary
by Graham & Janet (United Kingdom)
Dear Boo
We would like to offer our thanks for sorting a fantastic itinerary for our all too short visit to Vic Falls. The cruise on the Zambesi at sunset was a delight and the helicopter flight breathtaking! The pick ups were punctual and staff members were all very smiley, friendly, helpful and good company. The whole experience of the actual Falls and the town itself was outstanding.
We will return! Your company will be our first port of call. Many thanks for a very efficient service.
Best wishes
