Great three night stay at Ilala Lodge - Victoria Falls...

by Wadaley

My wife and I had a great three-night stay at the Ilala Lodge 12-27/30-2008.

The Ilala is a short walk away from the falls and has a homey feel to it. The staff was very friendly, the breakfast buffet was substantial and the room was more than adequate. A major plus, we did not see or get bit by any mosquitoes.

A family of warthogs came around each day for a romp on the grass outside our room.

From previous reviews I expected the lunch and dinner menus at the Ilala to be expensive and so was pleasantly surprised to find great food at a reasonable price. I could not resist ordering the warthog burger for lunch and it was so delectable that I ordered another the following day.

The citizens were warm and friendly and at no time did I feel threatened or concerned about our welfare. The one gripe we had was that you have to pay US $20 each time you visit the falls. It is a shame that they do not offer a day pass. Having said that I am not sure that we would have spent more time there than we did. You can only endure so much spray and even with a slicker we managed to get drenched
