Important Information for Self-drivers & the Cash Situation

(Victoria Falls)

28 September, 2017

The Fuel Situation
We would like to inform all our self-driving guests that there is currently a shortage of fuel in Victoria Falls, and indeed in Zimbabwe. Fuel supplies have been dwindling over the past week or so, and queues have been seen in Victoria Falls this week.

We, therefore, advise that you bring in enough fuel into Zimbabwe for your journey. Avoid using large drums, but carry a reasonable amount in Jerrycans.

Local tour operators have not been affected by the fuel shortage and so transfers and activities are going ahead as usual. Fly-in tourist need not worry about not being picked up or dropped of at the airport, or missing any of their activities.

The Cash Situation
From our last report, the cash crisis has not gotten better in Zimbabwe. The use of swiping machines has increased, and we have seen that a few taxi-drivers have also joined the bandwagon.

We still strongly advise that visitors pre-book accommodation, transfers and activities prior to arrival (don't forget your vouchers), and to bring cash, especially for:
- Visa fees
- National parks fees
- Any other transfers that would require cash, or taxi fares
- Food
- Curio shopping, etc.

As usual, we will update this blog when and if there are any changes.
