Victoria Falls is Great

by Colin Campbell
(England)

I lived in Victoria Falls with my Father Gordon Campbell my Mom and sister in the early 1940's my dad worked with Ted Spencer at Spencer Airways, those were the days when Ted Spencer ( my Godfather ) and my dad took people from Vic Falls to England in an Avro Anson, many great stories from those trips, we remained at the Falls untile Ted was killed at Croydon England in a Dakota he had just purchased, all this took place on Take-Off this was one trip that my dad was not with him it was agreat loss to a great man. My father moved on to Salisbury and started working with CAA ( Central African Airways ) where he stayed until he retired in the 1990's

I have many fond memories of the Falls.
In 1977 I was stationed at the Falls with Immigration for a short spell. I am sure there are people there today who remember those wonderful Times. The Soper family with the crocodiles!!!!.

Paths cross

I came across your post this evening. I am only just uncovering a lot of our family history but I believe my Grandmother’s sister and her family were in the plane with Ted Spencer that fateful day in Croydon. 25th January 1947.

I now live in Vic falls with my husband and two daughters :)

Ted Spencer
by: Lisa Spencer

Ted Spencer was my grandfather. He was killed in the airplane crash at Croyden when my dad was 13 years old. My dad learned of this tragic event from a radio broadcast when he was at school in Johannesburg. I just returned from a trip to the Falls a couple of months ago, and was able to visit the "Old Graveyard," where Ted along with other Spencer family members are buried. I had the good fortune to meet with two locals who knew of my grandfather and his adventurous spirit, which is still shared in stories with the locals almost 80:years after his death.
