Indaba 2013 was magnificent for Zimbabwe Tourism!

The excitement, vibe and reception of Zimbabwe at Indaba 2013 was incredible this year, Ross Kennedy, Chief Executive of Africa Albida Tourism has said.
“Zimbabwe has long lost any hint of ‘distressed destination’ stigma, as the country, people and world class products were definitely at the center of attention at Indaba 2013 last week in Durban,” Mr Kennedy said.
Africa Albida Tourism is a leading hospitality group with Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and the recently opened Victoria Falls Safari Club at the forefront of their portfolio.
INDABA is one of the largest tourism marketing events on the African calendar and one of the top three ‘must visit’ events of its kind on the global calendar.
Indaba 2013 was held in Durban from 11 – 14 May with over 12000 delegates attending – between exhibitors, buyers, sellers and media.
“Zimbabwe tourism will be hugely boosted by the UNWTO tourism congress in August year, but still has a long way to go, however the entire industry is most certainly headed in the right direction,” Mr Kennedy said.
“Zimbabwe tourism is on the way up – obviously it’s been a rough time between 2000 and 2011 but we have turned a significant corner,” he said.
“The interest from international buyers was doubled if not tripled from the past few years, showing immense interest for properties and products nationwide.”
“A key selling point and highlight that was discussed at Indaba was the construction of the new airport at Victoria Falls,” Mr Kennedy highlighted.
“The upgrade of this facility will make a tremendous impact on access and arrivals to Victoria Falls, with the overflow benefiting the rest of the country. I know the entire industry is looking forward to this huge milestone and legacy for our country and industry.”
Africa Albida Tourism made some exciting new announcements at Indaba 2013 including the introduction of New Group Operations Manager to the trade, room refurbishments, upgrades and investment into new products and people.
“Africa Albida Tourism as well as many other operators are looking forward to an exciting couple of years ahead as we continue to positively promote and invest in tourism in our country.”
Ross Kennedy said that the energy and team work displayed by the combined ‘Tourism Zimbabwe’ operators along with our Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and Honorable Minister for Tourism was a real pleasure to be a part of and contribute to.
“Indaba provides an annual platform for key players to be under one roof, take note in key discussions and negotiations and thoroughly plan for the year ahead, and this year it was absolutely non-stop for Zimbabwean operators and players!” Mr Kennedy concluded.
