We're here with some recommendations of where you can stay in Victoria Falls, Hwange and Kariba to have that extra special vacation without the crowds. Victoria Falls - ZimbabweAccommodation options in Victoria Falls for exclusive use are not limited to homestays, safari camps or lodges, but include villas set apart from actual hotels. Price-wise, the private lodges that are part of Safari Lodges will offer fully inclusive stays, and therefore, will have the highest prices. The villas offered at hotels will be on a bed and breakfast basis, but bear in mind that these are at luxury hotels. The self-catering homes tend to be much cheaper because you pay just for accommodation, without any extras. Exclusive use self-catering homestay in Victoria Falls In Victoria Falls, self-catering homestay options are a great way to have private time with family and/or friends while enjoying everything Victoria Falls has to offer. They are generally located in the quiet residential area, a few kilometres away from the town centre. These private houses range from around $400 to $500 per night for 4 to 5 bedrooms. They have private facilities including a fully kitted kitchen, lounge and dining areas, as well as spacious garden and usually a swimming pool. If you prefer your small group of up to four people right in the middle of the town business centre and closer to the largest waterfall in the world, there is a 2 bedroom apartment just 800m from the entrance to the Victoria Falls rainforest. Also within the Victoria Falls town, Mbano Manor have their Mutota Forest Villa within the teak forest, which boasts lavish living space including dining area, lounge, fully stocked refreshment area, private courtyard, private swimming pool, two outdoor showers, two indoor showers in a bathroom also with claw bath and his and hers amenities, all meals and selected drinks, complimentary massage and one activity, plus dedicated chef and butler service. This villa a perfect for splashing yourself on your honeymoon, or just a romantic getaway. However, there is an informal lounge which can be converted into a bedroom for up to two children. At around $2500, it is high-priced although you do get extras while staying there.
Forest Villa at Mbano Manor Hotel in Victoria Falls Out at Palm River Hotel, their private villa is set apart from the main hotel. The Palm River Villa is well suited for families or travelling group. It has three different bedrooms – deluxe room, honeymoon suite and executive suite, each with it's own bathroom. Within the villa is a shared kitchen, dining area and lounge. The private patio opens out to the garden and private swimming pool. Included with villa stay is a private villa host, fruit platter, chocolates and snacks complimentary river cruise (subject to availability), high tea in the villa and a private shuttle. The villa is priced at $2228 per night for bed and breakfast. Near the Batoka gorge, Elephant Camp West next to Elephant Camp, offers four luxury suites for exclusive use, accommodating up to eight adults and eight children at any one time. Each suite offers spacious bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers and bath with a view, private deck and plunge pool. Guests can come together in the central lounge and dining area, or on the main deck where there is also a swimming pool. At Elephant Camp West, families and groups can enjoy a fully inclusive holiday which comes with all the meals and drinks, plus activities offered at the lodge. At $3380 per night in the low season for the whole camp, if you manage to fill up the camp, you get pretty good value for your money. On the other side of town within the Zambezi National Park, Victoria Falls River Lodge now offers a private Riverside Villa along the banks of the Zambezi. The villa has two king/twin suites and a family suite, which can accommodate up to six adults and two children. Private facilities at the villa include two plunge pools overlooking the river, complimentary mini-bar and tea/coffee making facilities, communal lounge and dining, indoor bath and shower as well as outdoor shower, exclusive chef's kitchen, and a star bed. For sole use, this villa's fully inclusive rate per night is a whopping $6400 in the low season.
The new exclusive use villa at Victoria Falls River Lodge Further upstream and still in the Zambezi National Park, Matetsi River Lodge offer a River House private villa with ample living space for up to eight guests travelling together. The villa has four bedrooms, a fully kitted kitchen, open plan indoor and outdoor dining areas, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers and a bath, a private pool overlooking the river, and dedicated guide, tracker and safari vehicle. The common areas basically have views of the river and the outdoor areas get shade from the trees. In the low season, this private villa costs $5100 per night at the fully inclusive rate, which comes with private airport transfers and private activities.
The River House at Matetsi Lodge in Zambezi National Park Hwange National Park - ZimbabweYou can find exclusive use options both within Hwange National Park, and outside the park boundary. Whichever you choose, you will still get fully inclusive accommodation and a good private safari experience for your travelling group. Prices are either charged per person or per group, or for the entire unit. Within the park, Tom's Little Hide is a private part of The Hide Safari Camp which has a cottage and tented rooms, accommodating up to six adults and four children at a time. The outdoor lounge and swimming pool are located in front of the main cottage, while the dining room is inside the cottage. Tom's has full view of the nearby waterhole, so your whole family or group can enjoy watching game from the lounge. Accommodation is fully inclusive with up to four game viewing activities per day in a private vehicle with your private guide. Rates at Tom's are per person starting with $465 for the first four adults, then $415 for each adult thereafter.
Outer lounge opens out to the pool and the wilderness beyond On the far end of The Hide's deluxe suites, The Private Hide is an exclusive use facility with up to four tented suites, which includes a private dinning room, lounge, swimming pool and fire pit. the facility also comes with a private guide and vehicles for your travelling party. At the Private Hide, the first two adults pay $540 per person, then $415 for each adult thereafter. Outside the park boundary, Khulu's Retreat is a private tented lodge located along the famous ancient Dete Vlei. It has two large suites with en-suite bathrooms, open-plan dining, kitchen and lounge overlooking the spacious teak deck. Beyond the deck is the fire bowl – a nice place to sit and watch the passing wildlife. The lodge comes with a fully equipped kitchen and private chef, private guide and private game drive vehicle. Use of the entire private lodge is priced at $2762 per night in the low season. Soon to open is another lodge located by the Dete vlei. Villa Iganyana is an 8-bed luxury Villa located in a Teak forest at the end of the west wing of Iganyana Tented Camp. The villa has 4 fully furnished tented bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom. Two Master rooms are en-suite including glassed showers with privileged view to the Vlei, bath and vanity unit. The two twin / double rooms are also en-suite with showers, toilet and vanity unit. Villa Iganyana offers a fully-featured kitchenette and scullery, lounge, dinette area, leisure deck and plunge pool fire-boma, and the service of a private chef, waiter and laundry team. A tree-top walk just lends that extra sense of luxury, allowing guests a short walk through the branches to a private viewing deck. A minimum of four people can enjoy this private safari at $600 per person per night. Lake Kariba - ZimbabweLake Kariba's most popular accommodation is definitely on one of the numerous houseboats, and you have a choice to spend time on the Binga side or the Kariba side. The houseboats vary in size and offerings. Most of them are self-catering, with rates starting around $330 per night (dry boat), but some will give you an option for catered accommodation, charging meals per person. There are a few luxury options that offer fully inclusive accommodation, complete with fuel, meals and drinks. Those operated by Zambezi Cruise Safaris have set fully inclusive trips which also include activities, and start from $1425 per person for a 3 night stay. Kariba houseboat holidays are a great family option as your group can book the entire houseboat for an exclusive experience.
Houseboat on Lake Kariba On land, Bumi Hills Safari Lodge offers a luxurious Baobab Villa - a 2 bedroom, exclusive use villa with its own living room, bar and dining deck and includes the service of a butler, and a private guide and vehicle. The spacious villa comfortably accommodates four people from $2860 per night, but a fifth person can be added at an extra cost.
