Iganyana Tented Camp

A luxury tented camp along the Dete Vlei...a highway for wildlife

View slideshow

Introduction

Iganyana Tented Camp is a private luxury bush camp on an exclusive concession which lies on the border of Hwange National Park. Iganyana means wild dog in Ndebele, after the African Wild Dog/Painted Wolf. From Victoria Falls, it is an easy two-hour drive, or a quick 30-minute charter flight, to camp. The camp is just minutes from Hwange Airport, and around the corner from the Painted Dog Conservancy.

Tucked into a teak forest, Iganyana Tented Camp looks out over the wide, open grass plain of a long-dry riverbed. This is, in fact, a highway of sorts. However, the only traffic on it is wildlife on their daily commute between waterholes – one of which is directly in front of camp. Natural walkways of compacted red river sand lead to the centre of the camp. Here, tall rain trees shade the large Bedouin tented dining and living area. This opens onto a large, raised wooden deck with a swimming pool, overlooking the waterhole just a stone's throw away. Below the deck is the boma with a fire pit: the hearth and heart of the luxury camp. A low, sculptural wall of twisted acacia boughs is all that separates you from the wilderness beyond.

Iganyana resounds the romance of 'Old Africa' in welcome comfort. The 15 guest tents form an arc, each tent with a view over an ancient, long-dry riverbed. The rooms are light and spacious, with 640 square feet to make yourself at home and retreat to privacy in comfort. The luxurious large tented rooms are elegantly furnished with lovingly restored antiques and locally crafted wooden furniture. All rooms accommodate king or twin bed configuration, and are able to fit two additional single beds per unit for families with small children. Each tent features en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and his/hers vanities, separate dressing area, a mini-lounge and a tea-coffee station. Glass sliding doors lead from the bedroom onto a private veranda. Air-conditioning and electricity ensure your room is always bright, cool and comfortable.

Game moves freely in and out of Hwange park here, and guests can look forward to great photographic opportunities from within camp, or on one of the activities. Half and full day game drives into Hwange National Park, walking safaris, and visits to the Painted Dog Conservancy nearby are what guests have to look forward to.

Customer Feedback

Brilliant service and so helpful
by Sally (Blisworth, U.K.)
I stumbled across Victoria Fall Guide by accident, but I am so glad I did. Tony and Boo were so helpful, advising us on the best activities for us as I have mobility issues, and arranging our itinerary and booking everything. I had no worries about using them, or sending a very large payment to someone I didn’t know. Everything they booked for us was so well organised, pick ups on time, knowledgeable and friendly guides, clean transport. We did the walking tour of the falls, the sunset dinner cruise, full day at Chobe, the team, lion encounter and the helicopter and every single one was faultless. We were also due to do the lunar rainbow but unfortunately it was cancelled, however boo arranged the refund immediately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We are so grateful to them for making our special holiday even more so.
