Dusty Road - Township Experience

A traditional dining experience like no other in Victoria Falls, Dusty Road in the township in Victoria Falls offers exquisite combinations of authentic Zimbabwean cuisine

Bright coloured township restaurant in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe - Dusty Road

Colourful atmosphere in the heart of the township

Deep in the heart of the Chinotimba township (about 2kms from Vic Falls town centre) is a dining experience like no other. Dusty Road is located in the buzzing township and aims to introduce the international tourist to a bit of traditional cuisine and atmosphere.

You really should give this a try, but to get there, you will need to take a taxi, as they do not provide transfers.

Entrance to Dusty Road

On arrival, you will see a big sign and a few peculiar trinkets illustrative of African, certainly Zimbabwean, way of life. Through the gate, you are greeted with a very colourful blend of everyday objects – black pots, hand-made brazier, chickens, traffic signs, dishes, etc. Walking further in and through to the reception area, there are lots of colours and old household items to brighten your senses and bring feelings of nostalgia for the good old days.

Up-cycled material in all areas of the restaurant

The tables are set under welcome shade from the trees. The furniture and décor is mostly up-cycled from old unconventional items such as doors, cable reels, tins, pots, and so much more, brought to life with various finishing (if any) and colourful chitenge and other fabrics. This gives the place a rustic and interesting atmosphere. You will also notice a few vegetable patches, common in most Zimbabwean homes.

The dishes at Dusty Road are cooked on an open fire, the traditional way. Ingredients are indigenous and mostly what you would find in Zimbabwean kitchens. The desserts, however, have been given a bit more pizzazz with some more wild ingredients which you may not typically have in a modern Zimbabwean household, but all still found in Zimbabwe.

We love how the decor and the food have been put together – plenty of thought has gone into the look and feel, creating an atmosphere that offers a truly genuine, traditional dining experience. The food is authentic and organic, with some unexpected ingredients. On the property, a group of local women sell their wares, and there is also a small curio shop, all set up to empower woman in the community. These are small beautiful wares – a little piece of Dusty Road and Zimbabwe that you can take back home with you.

by Graham & Janet (United Kingdom)
Dear Boo
We would like to offer our thanks for sorting a fantastic itinerary for our all too short visit to Vic Falls. The cruise on the Zambesi at sunset was a delight and the helicopter flight breathtaking! The pick ups were punctual and staff members were all very smiley, friendly, helpful and good company. The whole experience of the actual Falls and the town itself was outstanding.
We will return! Your company will be our first port of call. Many thanks for a very efficient service.
Best wishes
