Long stay luxury camping safaris operate in different parts of Botswana - the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve. Mobile tented camps are set up in each of these locations where you can experience some of the best safari areas that Botswana has to offer. While they are luxury safaris, they are geared towards those who want the comfortable lodge experience out in the wilderness, but don't want to spend as much as they would in the luxury camps.

The Camps

Each camp is made up of large Savannah-style en-suite guest tents and a communal tent.

The guest rooms are 8 x 3 meters, with a spacious sleeping area with comfortable king bed (twin arrangement is also possible). The bathroom consists of a flush toilet, closet and washbasin in the first section, and opens up to an outdoor bucket shower at the end section. Also in the sleeping area are side tables and a chest for storage. In front of the sleeping area is an overhang under which you can sit and relax. The rooms are nicely aerated - six gauze windows let the air in but keep the bugs out. Solar lanterns are used within the guest tents.

Inside the guest tent

The main tent houses the dining area bar and lounge. This is where guests can spend their time in between safaris and when they want to get out of their rooms. The main tent is also where charging equipment is for guests to juice up their phone and camera batteries. Additional charging is possible on the safari vehicles' on-board USB ports.

Meals are included and with house beverages. A dedicated chef is equipped with a stovetop and oven and meals are served in the dining area under the main tent and bush snacks and lunches are served during the full day game drives. Vegan, vegetarian religious and other dietary restrictions are available on request. The fully stocked bar under the main tent offers guests local beers and wine as well as one premium drink per day. Drinks are also available during the bush lunch.

Meals in the main tent

Being a real bush experience, there is no wi-fi or television in camp. Electricity supply is 100% via solar. Outside the main tent is the fire pit.

Safaris

While on these multi-day safaris, the main activity is all-day game drives. In each area that your visit, you will experience the maximum chance of seeing portions of the reserve and wildlife sightings. The guides on safari have come from years of experience with leading safari companies in Botswana.

Facilities available during these full day safaris include charging stations for guests' devices (although extra batteries are always recommended); a powered refrigerators to keep beverages cool all day; a portable toilet; interior LED lights useful on those early morning and late evening drives; warm hooded ponchos for those cold times while on safari.

The camps are literally mobile camps which means you get your same tent, just in a different location. Everything is moved for you from one destination to the next while you enjoy the game viewing, the scenery and the ride.

Luxury Camping Safari Options

The different safari itineraries will take you into Xakanaxa in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai on the fringe of the Okavango Delta, and Savuti/Savute in the corner of the Chobe National Park. There are a few itinerary options available - two 6-night options and one 9-night option. In each of these options, you spend three nights in each location.

After flying into your first safari area, you are picked up for your first game drive into camp. Depending on the time, it will be a full safari experience as you head into camp in the evening where everything will be set up for you. A delicious dinner will be served and then you may head to your tent for a good night's sleep.

Days start early in camp with a wakeup call and a hot coffee or tea with muffins, cereal or juice. You will take off soon after for your game drive. The big cats are usually still active at this time so you may catch a hunt or feeding in progress, but it is also a great time to see the herbivores moving to the watering holes. Around 9am is time for a break for some tea or coffee with snacks before continuing with the drive, or you may skip the tea break until lunch which is served in the bush. Unlike traditional safaris, you won't drive back to camp but have a filling meal with tables and chairs and drinks set up for you. Then your journey continues further out experiencing the sights and sounds of the Botswana wildlife. In the late afternoon, your guide will find a nice spot to watch the setting sun while sipping on sundowners and snacks before driving back to camp. Freshen up and enjoy dinner near the fire pit or under the tent.

The transfer between camps is by road, and to make the most of it, it is a full day game drive bringing you into the next camp in time for dinner.

7 Days/6 Nights - Khwai & Xakanaxa

You get to choose which location you would like to start your adventure - Khwai or Xakanaxa. The Okavango Delta is one of Africa's top wildlife destinations, and this itinerary allows you to experience the contrast from the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve to the northern edge of the Okavango.

This week-long Botswana safari adventure through pristine natural wilderness will show you open vistas with plains as far as the eye can see, vast waterways, seasonal lagoons, and dense forests. It's a lush oasis inhabited by a profusion of birds and other wildlife including hippos, elephants, giraffe, buffalo, crocodile, wildebeest, cheetah, lion, leopard, hyena, zebra, and a variety of antelope species. You'll also have the opportunity to discover one of Africa's most endangered species, the African Painted Wolf (Wild Dog). Botswana boasts one of the largest painted wolf populations in the world, and we guarantee you'll love these incredible creatures.

7 days / 6 Nights - Savuti & Khwai

Start in either Savuti or Khwai and then continue your journey north or south while you get up close and personal with spectacular landscapes and remarkable animals.

The Savuti region is located within the heart of Chobe National Park offering a unique mix of marshlands, open savannahs, and more. It's most well-known for its high concentration of predators, particularly lions, as well as its abundant elephant population. During certain times you could even have the chance to view the annual migration of zebras and predators. The Khwai concession is mostly dry and made up of sweeping grasslands, forests, and floodplains. You'll have great game-viewing areas as animals gather around various watering holes and the Khwai river. Located just outside the north-eastern boundaries of the Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai offers unmatched wildlife encounters, including spectacular bird watching opportunities.

10 Days / 9 Nights - Xakanaxa, Khwai & Savuti

You will start either in Savuti or Xakanaxa, with the Khwai section in between, enjoying everything from the open savannas of Savuti to the lagoon-front setting of Khwai to the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve in Xakanaxa.

Savuti is most well-known for its high concentration of predators as well as its abundant elephant population. While Xakanaxa is renowned for its big lagoons, notoriously big game, and winding tracks of forests, lush grasslands, and waterways. In Khwai you will explore all over the gorgeous and enchanting Khwai landscape, which boasts migrating herds of elephants, extremely rare Roan and Sable antelope, African wild dogs, lion, leopards, spotted hyena, zebra, wildebeest, and more.

Customer Feedback

Brilliant service and so helpful
by Sally (Blisworth, U.K.)
I stumbled across Victoria Fall Guide by accident, but I am so glad I did. Tony and Boo were so helpful, advising us on the best activities for us as I have mobility issues, and arranging our itinerary and booking everything. I had no worries about using them, or sending a very large payment to someone I didn’t know. Everything they booked for us was so well organised, pick ups on time, knowledgeable and friendly guides, clean transport. We did the walking tour of the falls, the sunset dinner cruise, full day at Chobe, the team, lion encounter and the helicopter and every single one was faultless. We were also due to do the lunar rainbow but unfortunately it was cancelled, however boo arranged the refund immediately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We are so grateful to them for making our special holiday even more so.
