Introduction

Located downstream of the Victoria Falls, perched overlooking the Batoka Gorge and the Zambezi River as it twists and turns in the depths some 250 metres below, Gorges Lodge is a long established and well known Victoria Falls lodge with a unique and breath-taking setting.

The luxury lodge offers the seclusion of a wilderness location, yet with the convenience of being just half an hour away from Victoria Falls town or airport (the Lodge is 10 kilometres downstream of the Falls in a direct line, 22 km by road). The Lodge operates a flexible shuttle bus service for guests to travel to and from town, allowing you to enjoy all that the town offers in terms of activities and tours.

Each of the lodge buildings is sensitively situated on the edge of the precipice, with dramatic views over the gorge and the gentle roar of the mighty Zambezi echoing from below. The ten stone and thatch chalets, each with their own private garden and viewing deck, are comfortably furnished and decorated, each including en-suite bathrooms (with bath and shower), mini fridge, tea and coffee station and ceiling fans. Four of the chalets are double story, with upstairs bedrooms, but only two are double, the rest being twin rooms.

Little Gorges is the newer extension to Gorges Lodge, and these are 5 luxurious suites situated beside the thatched chalets of the lodge. Twin and double room configurations overlook the Dibu Dibu River junction with the Zambezi as well as the breathtaking gorges. The rooms are large, and light with a balcony that has views of the gorges, and en-suite facilities built into the rocky terrain. The tented rooms are elevated and built on wood decks.

The main central lodge building offers a spacious and welcoming lounge area, restaurant and bar to relax. Set within landscaped gardens and including a swimming pool, this is definitely the place to adjust your watch to ‘Africa time’.

The rare Verraux’s (formerly black) eagle breeds in the gorge, and can often be watched as they hunt over the gorge. Auger buzzards, lanner and peregrine falcon are also seen, and you may even be lucky enough to see the rare taita falcon. At night the vast dark skies host an unbelievable display of stars.

Breakfast includes cooked or continental style options, and a light refreshment lunch menu is available. There is a full three course evening menu, with food sourced from local ingredients and a selection South African wines, all served by the friendly lodge staff.

Many guests choose Gorges lodge for their last couple of nights in Zimbabwe before flying from Victoria Falls International Airport, and you can not ask for a more spectacular location and relaxing setting to start or end any visit to the region.

Our Opinion

Gorges Lodge is an absolute favourite of ours. The location and views are beyond description and the management and staff are exceptionally accommodating. It is however located 22 kms from town which does make doing activities in town logistically more difficulty. All our clients that we send to Gorges absolutely rave about it and the beautifully peaceful location out way the problem of distance. Not recommend for families with young children because of its location on the cliffs edge.

Customer Feedback

Brilliant service and so helpful
by Sally (Blisworth, U.K.)
I stumbled across Victoria Fall Guide by accident, but I am so glad I did. Tony and Boo were so helpful, advising us on the best activities for us as I have mobility issues, and arranging our itinerary and booking everything. I had no worries about using them, or sending a very large payment to someone I didn’t know. Everything they booked for us was so well organised, pick ups on time, knowledgeable and friendly guides, clean transport. We did the walking tour of the falls, the sunset dinner cruise, full day at Chobe, the team, lion encounter and the helicopter and every single one was faultless. We were also due to do the lunar rainbow but unfortunately it was cancelled, however boo arranged the refund immediately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We are so grateful to them for making our special holiday even more so.
