Introduction

Chobe Bakwena Lodge is a small and friendly eco-lodge located on the edge of the Chobe River and 10 minutes from the Chobe National Park in the small town of Kasane (Botswana).

The area where the lodge is now located started off as barren piece of land used as a football field until the Young's (The owners) began planting trees and bushes in the area and built the lodge with a lot of passion and personal attention.

Bakwena has two types of accommodation you can choose from the River-View Chalets and their latest additions the Tree-Top Chalets.

The River-View Chalets, dotted along the front of the property over looking the Chobe River. These chalets are shaped like rondavels (traditional round huts), complete with thatched roofs and a private veranda/balcony. One can sit and enjoy the beauty of the passing river, bird life and the distance laugh of a hippo.

The Tree-Top Chalets are nestled among the woodland area of the lodge. These thatched rooms are elevated 3m above the ground peeping though the canopy of trees, everyone dreams of sleeping in a treehouse. The outside veranda adds a great touch where one can enjoy the world of light and leaves – with the distance sounds of Africa and the river. En-suite bathrooms are complimented by an outdoor shower for a real bush experience.

The Honeymoon Suite is by far one of the most romantic I have seen. Located at the end of the property with a private deck looking out on to the river where you can celebrate your love and the pure magic of Africa.

In the common area of Bakwena Lodge is the lounge and bar with an adjacent thatched building that has an upstairs "chill out" area - a high level open lounge with views of the Chobe River. Below is the sun deck and eco-pool, filtered entirely by plants, a great place to relax between those game drives and cruises.

Activities at the lodge are focused not only on game-viewing in Chobe National Park and on the Chobe River, but guests can take time to visit the local village and learn about the local culture of the community. Guided bike tours around town and the village are offered by the lodge. These activities are included in the rates along with other inclusions listed below.

The Young’s have taken the time to create a small eco-friendly guest lodge just 10 minutes from Kasane Airport and Town, as well as the Chobe National Park and Kazungula border (with Zimbabwe) - making for easy combinations with a stay in Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park.

Our Opinion

Bakwena this small and quirky guest lodge offers a more personal experience than the larger hotel/lodges situated in the small town of Kasane – 10mins from the entrance into the well-known Chobe National Park.

The approach through the suburbs of Kasane town can give an impression of not a great location. However, once you enter the gates into the small woodland of prime river frontage you certainly will not be disappointed.

The detail to the Tree Top Lodges and River Facing Rondavals together with the food and great staff makes for a warm, memorable and friendly environment to enjoy the game viewing that this area has to offer.

Everything is tastefully done whilst staying in line throughout with the Eco friendly theme that they pride themselves on.

Overall one of our top places to stay in Kasane.

Customer Feedback

Brilliant service and so helpful
by Sally (Blisworth, U.K.)
I stumbled across Victoria Fall Guide by accident, but I am so glad I did. Tony and Boo were so helpful, advising us on the best activities for us as I have mobility issues, and arranging our itinerary and booking everything. I had no worries about using them, or sending a very large payment to someone I didn’t know. Everything they booked for us was so well organised, pick ups on time, knowledgeable and friendly guides, clean transport. We did the walking tour of the falls, the sunset dinner cruise, full day at Chobe, the team, lion encounter and the helicopter and every single one was faultless. We were also due to do the lunar rainbow but unfortunately it was cancelled, however boo arranged the refund immediately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We are so grateful to them for making our special holiday even more so.
