Introduction

Tucked away within the quiet suburb in Victoria Falls town, Shongwe Lookout Guest Lodge is located just 3kms from the Victoria Falls entrance, and 2kms from the town centre. It is one of the newer guest lodges - refurbishment completed in mid 2019.

The beautifully furnished guest rooms surround a lush garden, with the main communal area on the other side of the property. On entry, you are greeted with the reception area which is adjacent to the restaurant and lounge area. Right by the lounge is the fully stocked bar. This combined area has been named Kuhlangana Area, meaning a place of gathering in Ndebele. It is a semi open area under tent splashed with African inspired designs, representing the local cultures of the Victoria Falls area.

Beyond the tented Kuhlangana Area is the sun deck with loungers and an infinity pool, perfect for relaxing and cooling off in the hot season. A small boma area is located in the garden. Here, guests can enjoy a traditional African barbeque meal (with arrangement), or simply gather around the fire for drinks and stories.

Shongwe Lookout Guest Lodge offers different sized accommodation in Deluxe, Studio and Executive rooms, all beautifully done in contemporary African decor. The most spacious of them are the executive rooms with extra length king beds. The completely new Deluxe suites have regular king size beds, while the more modest Studio rooms have two 3/4 extra length beds or extra length king beds. All 23 rooms have a shower, twin wash basins, and a private toilet, while most of them have bath tubs. Large French doors open onto the veranda and into the garden. A few of the guest rooms have wheelchair access, and inter-leading rooms are available on request.

The highlight of Shongwe Lookout Guest Lodge is the lookout tower, from which the lodge gets its name - Shongwe means tower in Shona. The two-level tower offers relaxed Moroccan lounge seats on the lower level, and open space with some seating on the tope level, with views of the surrounding town. You can see the Zambezi River and the spray of the Victoria Falls in the distance. Guests can order drinks from the tower, and using a pulley system, enjoy sundowners without having to come down for more drinks. The tower opens before sunrise, and closes at 9pm, so guests can enjoy the sunrise over a cup of macchiato, or gorgeous African sunsets over cocktails.

The newer build next to the guest lodge is Shongwe Oasis, Victoria Falls' first adult-only lodge. Shongwe Oasis takes guests 16 years and older, in 19 guest rooms which have similar design as the Deluxe rooms offered at Shongwe Lookout. Additional facilities at Oasis include a high-end beauty spa (Mvula Spa), island pool and outdoor Jacuzzi. The rooms come in double, twin and triple configurations. There is also three honeymoon suites which come with outdoor showers. Shongwe Oasis has it's own bar and restaurant in the main guest area, but guests are welcome to pop next door to take in the views from the lookout tower.

Our Opinion

The owners of Shongwe Lookout and Shongwe Oasis have put a lot of thought and love into this project, and it shows. The rooms, eating areas, and lookout tower offer contemporary African design, comfort and a relaxing atmosphere.

We absolutely love the unique offering of the lookout tower where guests can add on to their overall Victoria Falls experience.

Customer Feedback

Brilliant service and so helpful
by Sally (Blisworth, U.K.)
I stumbled across Victoria Fall Guide by accident, but I am so glad I did. Tony and Boo were so helpful, advising us on the best activities for us as I have mobility issues, and arranging our itinerary and booking everything. I had no worries about using them, or sending a very large payment to someone I didn’t know. Everything they booked for us was so well organised, pick ups on time, knowledgeable and friendly guides, clean transport. We did the walking tour of the falls, the sunset dinner cruise, full day at Chobe, the team, lion encounter and the helicopter and every single one was faultless. We were also due to do the lunar rainbow but unfortunately it was cancelled, however boo arranged the refund immediately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We are so grateful to them for making our special holiday even more so.
