Introduction

Spurwing Island Lodge is a great alternative to the highly priced luxury safari lodges in Kariba. They offer comfortable accommodation with full board rates, making it a great choice for families and couples alike.

The lodge is located on a private island in Lake Kariba, offering stunning views of the lake, Sanyati Gorge, and the Matusadona National Park. A 40-minute boat ride takes you from Kariba town to Spurwing, or you can self-drive.

Accommodation at Spurwing has been upgraded recently, and comes in tents, chalets and cabins. The lodgings are spacious and modern, and under either chromadek or thatch. The lodge can accommodate up to 40 adults as a time.

Chalets are stone under chromadek roofing, letting in more light from the high window and large glass sliding doors, that lead out to the veranda. They are twin bedded but can accommodate small children on sleeper expandable couches.

One of the cabins has chromadek roof, but the rest are stone under thatch. These overlook the harbour, and are a bit smaller than the chalets. They are twin or double with an option for extra beds for children. Only these are built in cupboards.

The newest of the tents are canvas sided under chromadek roofing, with large gauze breathable ends, canvas sides with a brick enclosed bathroom and large  glass and gauze sliding doors opening onto the front deck. The other two are tents under thatch with stone floors - one double and one twin.

The lodge also has a main guest area with an open restaurant and bar under thatch, with views of the lake shore. The adjacent swimming pool with loungers also has views of the lake shore.

When the water is low, you can drive from the island to Matusadona National Park, and Spurwing offers a variety of game viewing activities. The park has impressive wildlife and birdlife populations which can be seen on land and from the water. Kariba is known for it's scenery, and a trip up to Sanyati Gorge will not disappoint. Fishing trips can also be arranged, and Kariba is home to the exciting tiger fish, plus other wonderful species.

Spurwing Island is a great alternative to the highly priced luxury safari lodges, and have comfortable accommodation with full board rates. We recommend it for families and couples alike. The location, wildlife and scenery are sure to make for a wonderful stay in Kariba.

Spurwing Island Lodge is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Lake Kariba. It is also a great base for exploring the Matusadona National Park. And with regular flights now going to Kariba, the island is easily accessible and easy to combine with your holiday in Victoria Falls, Hwange and/or Mana Pools.

• Fly in from Victoria Falls or Harare Airports to Nearby Airstrip, then transfer to Spurwing Island (at an additional cost).
• Fly into Kariba town, then take a shared 40-minute boat ride to Spurwing (at an additional cost).
• Self-drive to Kariba town and park at Marineland Harbour for a small daily charge. Then take the shared 40-minute boat ride to Spurwing (at an additional cost).
