Introduction

Situated in an open grove of impressive false mopane trees in south eastern Hwange National Park. Davison's Camp overlooks a productive waterhole which throughout the year attracts herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as a multitude of plains game and their accompanying predators.

This premier private wildlife concession owned and operated by Wilderness Safaris, is one of the best that Zimbabwe has to offer. Typical open African Savannahs offer fantastic photographic opportunities to get that classic wildlife shot. Wilderness operates three camps in this huge concession and Davison's is the least expensive of the three - classified in their adventure range. It’s cheaper not because of an inferior game experience but rather it has slightly less luxurious facilities.

Being tucked away in a remote corner of Hwange National Park means the easiest and fastest way of getting there is by charter flight from Victoria Falls, although a road transfer is also an option (roughly five hours from Victoria Falls - 2.5 hrs through the Hwange National Park).

Eight en-suite tents and one family unit, all boast clear views of the waterhole. Not plush but certainly more than comfortable enough, these tents each have their own patio, making them a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the wildlife and birds that surround you. The main lounge and dining area is typical of a safari camp with comfy couches and African decor. This is the perfect place to spend the siesta hours relaxing while keeping an eye on the waterhole, there is even an upper viewing deck which has elevated and uninterrupted views of the waterhole. The pool at Davison's Camp offers relief in the extreme hot summer months and the fire pit in the open deck is great in the evenings to sit around and discuss the days sightings.

The activities offered here are mostly conducted on the Wilderness Private Concession. Games drives, night drives, guided walks and a visit to the local village, will fill your day with adventure and excitement. Venturing from waterhole to waterhole on the game drives can be very productive indeed. Huge herds of elephants are what this area is known for, although the densities of plains game and predators make it one of the best game viewing areas in Zimbabwe, let alone Hwange. Walking with one of the professional guides will give you a unique perspective and a chance to see the smaller things this park also has to offer, while the Village tour is a great insight into the lives of the local populations, and the work Wilderness Safaris does for them.

Our Opinion

Davison's Camp is without question one of my favourite camps in Hwange, offering fantastic value on a première wildlife concession. Every time I go to this concession I am awestruck by the quantity and diversity of its wildlife, very hard to beat. Davison's tents are smaller and slightly less luxurious than the other two wilderness camps on this concession, which is reflected in its cheaper price. So if you are not overly concerned with additional luxuries but want a genuine safari experience, then this camp is ideal.

Great SADC rates also make this a perfect choice for our regional and local clients. Wilderness guides are also always of a high standard, as is the food and accommodation. Being a private concession, off-road driving is permitted and only vehicles belonging to the Wilderness camps are seen, which in my opinion are two huge advantages. Wilderness Camps in Mana Pools, Hwange and Victoria Falls provide brilliant packages in the absolute best locations. Contact us for more details.

Summary

The varying seasons in Hwange will have a huge impact on your wallet and Safari experience.

The Green season (rainy season) will see incredible bird and insect life but reduced animal sightings. However lodge prices in most cases are dramatically reduced offering really good value.

The High season (dry season) is when animals congregate in vast numbers around the waterholes and National Geographic type scenes are commonplace. This is peak season and lodge prices escalate substantially.

Please feel free to contact us with details of your preferences and allow us the opportunity to discuss which time of year is going to suit you best.

**NB** Hwange Lodges in the peak season get over booked, it is advisable to plan and book well in advance to ensure you get what you want.

• Tented safari camp overlooking very active waterhole
• Premier wildlife concession - unquestionably one of the best in Zimbabwe, with a phenomenal quantity and variety of birds and wildlife
• Private Concession - allows off-road driving and offers a more private safari experience
• Comfortable en-suite tents with private patio
• Excellent guiding and tasty food
• Elevated viewing platform and swimming pool
• Davison's Camp is the least expensive of the three camps on this concession, representing great value for money
• Air Transfers are best, but road transfer are available
• Variety of game viewing activities, including walking safaris, night drives and village visits
• Recommended for guests wanting an authentic safari experience without paying for unnecessary luxuries
• Combination packages possible with sister camps in Mana Pools, Hwange and Victoria Falls

Customer Feedback

Brilliant service and so helpful
by Sally (Blisworth, U.K.)
I stumbled across Victoria Fall Guide by accident, but I am so glad I did. Tony and Boo were so helpful, advising us on the best activities for us as I have mobility issues, and arranging our itinerary and booking everything. I had no worries about using them, or sending a very large payment to someone I didn’t know. Everything they booked for us was so well organised, pick ups on time, knowledgeable and friendly guides, clean transport. We did the walking tour of the falls, the sunset dinner cruise, full day at Chobe, the team, lion encounter and the helicopter and every single one was faultless. We were also due to do the lunar rainbow but unfortunately it was cancelled, however boo arranged the refund immediately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We are so grateful to them for making our special holiday even more so.
