Introduction

Perched atop a granite whaleback rock, Big Cave Camp offers stunning views of the surrounding Matobo Hills. The luxury thatched chalets are built into the natural landscape, blending seamlessly with the surrounding rocks. The luxury thatched chalets, and the main guest areas offer inspirational views of the surrounding Matobo Hills.

The owner run lodge is located in a private wilderness area, just 3km from the entrance to Matobo Hills National Park, making it a convenient base for exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also an hour's drive from Bulawayo Airport, making it easily accessible by air or road from Victoria Falls.

The ten A-frame chalets all have en-suite bathrooms, private decks, and breathtaking views. Standard and honeymoon suites are available, as well as a family lodge.

The communal guest living area, known as the "Leopard's Lair," features a teak bar, lounge, and dining area. This warm and inviting space is centered around a large rock, with trees growing through the roof. There is also a library containing books on the history of the area, and a fireplace for those cool nights.

Outside, the natural rock pool and sun deck are the perfect place to cool off on a hot day. The pool boma is a great spot to enjoy a drink with friends or family.

Big Cave Camp offers half board, full board and fully inclusive stays, and a variety of accommodation options to suit all budgets and needs.

There is also a campsite with shared braai area, fireplace, ablutions, gazebo and bar. The Ndebele Village offers very basic thatched rondavel accommodation for up to two guests in each room. Think camping, but bedding is provided, and you have a roof over your head, and electricity.

Our Opinion

We love that Big Cave has something for self-drivers, and non-self-drivers, from camping to comfortable fully inclusive options. They offer good rates and are located not too far from the park entrance, as well as the city of Bulawayo.

Customer Feedback

Brilliant service and so helpful
by Sally (Blisworth, U.K.)
I stumbled across Victoria Fall Guide by accident, but I am so glad I did. Tony and Boo were so helpful, advising us on the best activities for us as I have mobility issues, and arranging our itinerary and booking everything. I had no worries about using them, or sending a very large payment to someone I didn’t know. Everything they booked for us was so well organised, pick ups on time, knowledgeable and friendly guides, clean transport. We did the walking tour of the falls, the sunset dinner cruise, full day at Chobe, the team, lion encounter and the helicopter and every single one was faultless. We were also due to do the lunar rainbow but unfortunately it was cancelled, however boo arranged the refund immediately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. We are so grateful to them for making our special holiday even more so.
