9 Night Safari Special - Arrival of the rains

4 nights at Zambezi Sands River Camp / 3 Nights at Bomani Tented Lodge / 2 nights at Gorges Lodge.

Take a nine night journey in Victoria Falls and Hwange and experience game, birds, and the Victoria Falls in one package. You get to stay in three different Imvelo Lodges accommodations - Zambezi Sands, Bomani Tented Lodge and Gorges Lodge - and go on different activities such as canoeing, game drives and a variety of tours. This 9 night safari special starts being offered at the beginning of the rainy seasons when the flora begins to change, setting off a change in the ecosystem with amphibians emerging, changing the patterns of different birds and animals.

Itinerary

DAY 01

You will be met with a member of the Imvelo Lodges team at Victoria Falls Airport, and taken into Zambezi National Park. To get to the Zambezi Sands River Camp, it is a 45 minute drive, which in itself is a game drive. Once you have familiarised and settled in, you will take a walk along the Zambezi River banks in the late afternoon.
The birds to look out for on this day - Peter's Finfoot, Malachite Kingfisher, Fish Eagle and Crested Francolin

DAY 02

On this day, you will take a short walk and then take a canoe to get to the Siansimba Islands. These Islands are within the Zambezi National Park. After touring the islands, you will take an afternoon game drive further into the national park. The day ends with a relaxing sun-downer cruise down the river and back to camp.
The birds to watch on this day - White Backed Night Heron, Goliath Heron, Dwarf Bittern, Pel's Fishing Owl and Giant Kingfisher

DAY 03

This day starts with a road transfer to Sidinda Island camp which is 80km downstream from the Victoria Falls. While there, you will explore the valley and the river gorge on foot and then by boat. Upon arriving at Sinkila, lunch will be served picnic-style while you take in the waterfalls and then explore the hot springs at Sidinda. Later in the afternoon you will be taken back to Zambezi Sands for your final night of the trip there.
On this day, look for - Rock Pratincole, Green Pigeon, Western Banded Snake Eagle, Collared Palm Thrush and Narina Trogon

DAY 04

Early on this day, its time to pack up and have breakfast while your belongings are loaded onto the vehicles for a 2.5 hour road trip. Once at the Gwaai River, you will be switch onto a more suitable vehicle for a 1.5 hour drive to Bomani Tented Lodge in Hwange. Once you have settled in, you will take a short game drive to see the area, then have sundowners and canap├ęs near camp within the Ngamo area.
Highlight birds to look out for - Red Billed Francolin, Long Tailed Shrike, Ground Hornbil, Marabou and Kori Bustard

DAY 05

You get an early start to do some more exploring in the Hwange National Park where you are sure to see more than just elephants. After this drive, you will take another into the Tsholotsho Communal Lands, where you will have a picnic lunch while enjoying the sounds of the acacia inhabitants and the fresh air under the shade. An evening drive back to camp with spotlights will give you a chance to witness the nocturnal animals.
Birds to watch for today - Swallow Tail Bee Eater, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Pennantwing Nightjar, Dickinson's Kestrel and Martial Eagle

DAY 06

Take a deeper drive into the Hwange National Park, all the way to the pans where the San people used to live. The Wexcau and HwaHwa Du pans which you will visit are part of the Kalahari. You will learn what is means to have Hwange's elephants in this area and how it affects the bird populations there.
Birds to watch on this day - Red Crested Korhaan, Crowned Hornbill, Pied Babbler, Crimson Breasted Shrike and Chanting Goshawk

DAY 07

On this day, you take a drive to another side of Ngamo into the Camelthorn woodlands. A nature walk will be the highlight of the day as you explore the area and meet its inhabitants. Lunch will be served at Camelthorn Lodge, a sister lodge to Bomani Tented Lodge and Zambezi Sands River Camp. As this will be the last day staying at Bomani, a farewell bush dinner will be served under the stars within the Bomani area.
Birds for today - Black Sparrowhawk, Painted Violet Eared Waxbill, Red Billed Oxpecker and Giant Eagle Owl

DAY 08

Today will be transfer day as you pack up to take a 4hour trip back to the Victoria Falls area. This time, you will be staying 10km downstream from the falls at Gorges Lodge, located along the Batoka Gorge. In the evening, you will get to interact with the nearby wild black eagles and Peregrine falcons.
What to look out for on this day - Trumpeter Hornbill, Black Eagle, Peregrine, Augur and Black Swifts

DAY 09

You can't not take a guided tour of the Victoria Falls, and so on this last day, you will experience the 7th wonder of the world and learn how it came to be called the Victoria Falls. On this leisurely day, you will also get the opportunity to do a bit of shopping before returning to Gorges Lodge for a more relaxed afternoon. The evening will be characterised by a lively dinner under the stars, with performances from a local traditional dance group.
Highlight birds for this day - Emerald Cuckoo, Silvery Cheeked Hornbill, Black Helmet shrike, Purple Crested Turaco and Bat Hawk

DAY 10

Its time to pack up, and after breakfast, you will be taken on a 30 minute road transfer to the Victoria Falls Airport for your flight out.

All meals; Nine nights' accommodation - 4 nights at Zambezi Sands, 3 nights at Bomani Tented Lodge,  nights at Gorges Lodge; All transfers including pick-up and drop-off at Victoria Falls Airport; National park entry fees; Full use of a qualified guide

Rate Excludes:

Flights, visas, fishing and all other excursions and additional permits, curio shop expenses.
