ZIMBABWE SAFARI

 - SPECIAL 8 DAY

The Zambezi River, most enchanted of them all....

The Zambezi River, most enchanted of them all, the plains and prolific wildlife of Eastern Hwange National Park, and the drama and remoteness of the 300 kilometre long Lake Kariba.  These are places of dreams and romance evoking images of the great era of adventure and exploration.  Wild and captivating,  they beat to a rhythm that is fast disappearing

Day 1 - Zimbabwe Safari - VICTORIA FALLS

Upper Zambezi River

Zambezi River
Meet guests in Victoria Falls and proceed straight into the Zambezi National Park to our tented camp on the banks of the Zambezi .

Day 2 -  Zimbabwe Safari - CANOEING

Zambezi River

Zambezi River

The following morning,  after breakfast, drive up river to commence a full day canoeing. This is the most varied and interesting stretch of the Zambezi anywhere above Victoria Falls, combining small rapids, silent channels and wide open sections of the river. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks and canoe into camp at approximately 1700 hours. Have hot showers under the ebony trees, and relax in front of a leisurely dinner. Overnight on the banks of the Zambezi.

Day 3 and 4 – Zimbabwe Safari - HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

Hwange National Park

Hwange National Park

The next morning,  after breakfast, begins the 280 Kilometre drive to Ngweshla camp in Eastern Hwange National Park where one reaches the open plains and is renowned for the biggest bodied elephant in Africa. Wildlife is outstanding, species seen include elephant, buffalo, giraffe, sable, kudu, wildebeeste, waterbuck, impala, zebra, lion and hyena, occasionally rhino. Two nights are spent at this camp site . It is a rustic and immaculately maintained site, with shower, flush toilet, two spotless open rondavels and grass area where we pitch our  tents. Days are spent on game drives, stopping at a hide in an ebony tree for lunch, overlooking a water hole, and evenings sitting alongside a large pan watching the game come down to drink.

Day 5, 6 and 7– Zimbabwe Safari - LAKE KARIBA

Kariba Lake Zimbabwe

Lake Kariba

After an early breakfast,  we break camp and begin the 260 kilometre drive to Binga, where we board the houseboat, and begin a 2 night 2 day cruise along Kariba. This 300 kilometre long lake is remote, dramatic and spectacular in its vast panoramas. Elephant may be encountered on some of the floodplains, and during this period we fish in a lake renowned for it's bream and tiger fish, take walks , and generally enjoy the wildness of the lake in comfort. The houseboat has 4 cabins, 2 showers and toilets, a fully equipped kitchen and 2 tender boats. For those who wish, there is a possibility of sleeping under the stars  on the upper deck.

Day 7 and 8 – Zimbabwe Safari-  BINGA AND VICTORIA FALLS

Binga - Lake Kariba

Binga - Lake Kariba

On day 7 we end the cruise and drive approximately 10 kilometres to Binga, where we spend that night in a large house, 5 spacious en suite bedrooms, a swimming pool within well kept gardens, overlooking the lake, and appropriately named “Journey’s End”.
Early on day 8 we return to Victoria Falls  This is 280 kilometre journey.

YOUR HOSTS

Paul Connolly has been a safari operator for the last 24 years.  He is the pioneer of canoeing, kayaking and whitewater rafting on the Zambezi in Zimbabwe .  Once a year, he undertakes an expedition, generally solo, to the most remote places and rivers of Africa.

Marie, his wife, is an exceptional organiser and cook and accompanies every safari.

The best 8 day safari.....

*

The variety of camping and canoeing on the Zambezi, one of the few great rivers of the world, the open plains and prolific wildlife of Eastern Hwange, and a houseboat on a lake 300 kilometres long, and considerably more interesting than lakes Tanganyika and Malawi for example, is unique. Quite simply,  that variety cannot be equalled.  Added to this, as a bonus,  is the high probability that you will not meet any other tourists

*

The catering is done by Marie.  In the words of our last 8 guests with whom we have just finished this safari, you will not eat that well in a restaurant of international standard .

*

There is an essential level of comfort. All tents, mattresses, table chairs, crockery and cutlery are brand new.  Showers are available at all times in all phases of the safari, and after the end of 7 days,  drinks are still ice cold

*

Despite all the political and economic problems of Zimbabwe, the genuine politeness and decency of Zimbabweans is,  as it has always been, exceptional.   This is a fact which is always noticed by tourists to the country

The Menu

On every alternate day, the menu consists of a cooked breakfast such as : egg, bacon, tomatoes, baked beans, toast etc..
The next day, the menu would be a fruit salad followed by a delicious homemade muesli full of dried fruits, nuts, oats etc.., followed by toast and an assortment of jams.

Lunches

This consists of a different type of homemade quiches every day accompanied by cold meats such as meat balls, ham, salami or tuna mayonnaise, different salads, cheese. Everything is fresh and homemade.

Dinners

We offer dishes such as beef stroganoff, chicken curry, beef goulash, spaghetti bolognaise, etc.. with either rice, potatoes or pasta accompanied by a minimum of 2 side vegetables. We always finish off by a scrumptious home-made pudding accompanied by fresh cream or custard. In winter, we start by a heart warming soup.

We are very happy to help with any special diet requirements as long as we receive sufficient prior notice.
