Victoria Falls

One of the original natural wonders of the world, the Victoria Falls is a World Heritage Site and an extremely popular tourism attraction. Known locally as ‘The Smoke that Thunders’, this spectacle is accessible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe and it is an ideal place to combine a game viewing and water sports. There is excellent fishing, a terrifying bungee jump and arguably the best commercial white water rafting in the world.

Overnight: Bayete Guest Lodge

Bayete Guest Lodge offers comfortable and affordable accommodation and is situated in the heart of the Victoria Falls Residential Area. The lodge is 3 km away from the Victoria Falls rainforest and 22 km from the airport. Recently renovated, this family run lodge has 25 rooms which are set in a lush tropical garden. Central to the lodge is the large tear drop pool which is hugged by the Caldecott Boma and Ngwezi Tavern. Breakfast is served in the Caldecott Boma every day. Lunch and dinner are also available on special request and are delicious home cooked meals. Buffets and BBQ’s are available for group bookings or by special request.

Destination Lake Kariba

Notes: Day 3, 4, 5 & 6

After breakfast you will be collected and transferred by air-conditioned minibus to Binga where the Lady Jacqueline Houseboat is moored. This is approximately a 3.5 hr journey on mostly good tar roads. After meeting the crew and settling in, the Lady Jacqueline will set out from the harbour and cruise to the first night’s mooring point on one of the islands where a beach barbeque and sundowners await.

Each cruise is tailor made to the client’s preference but a popular option is to cruise to the Senkwe basin, where the tiger fishing is amazing. Days on a houseboat on Lake Kariba is all about relaxing in the sun, enjoying good company and a few drinks. There is an 18ft tender boat at your disposal for ease of access into some of the smaller channels where the game viewing, bird-watching and fishing are normally excellent. Sundowner cruises are also a particular favourite of many clients.

Another full, lazy day on board the Lady Jacqueline. During this day, she will start cruising back towards Binga, so that you can get into harbour early morning on Day 6. Today relax and enjoy more game viewing, bird-watching and fishing on the idyllic Lake Kariba.

After an early breakfast cruise into harbour, bid farewell to your friendly crew and jump into your air-conditioned minibus at around 8am. Transfer to Victoria Falls airport in time for the afternoon international flight departures.

Lake Kariba

The planet’s most voluminous man-made lake, Kariba is a popular tourist destination that was created in the 1950’s when the mighty Zambezi was dammed. It stretches for more than 200 kilometres along the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, forming a natural boundary between the two countries. The lake’s waters are home to abundant crocodiles, hippos, fish and aquatic birds, while its shoreline and islands are rich with terrestrial game such as elephant and buffalo. It has become one of Zimbabwe’s main tourist attractions offering houseboat holidays, fishing safaris and wonderful game viewing experiences

Overnight: Lady Jacqueline Houseboat

Known as the Lady of the Lake, this 65ft cruiser moored in Binga is simply luxurious. Ideal for groups of 4 to 10 people.

The advantage of hiring a houseboat from Binga on the western side of Lake Kariba is that it is easily accessible if you are including Victoria Falls and Hwange in your holiday. This is sometimes called the golden triangle all within easy driving distance of each other on good tar roads. Combined is a natural wonder of the world, Victoria Falls, pristine big five game viewing in Hwange and ultimate relaxation, good fishing and game viewing aboard a luxury floating hotel.

The disadvantage is that the choice of houseboats in Binga is limited, unlike Kariba town on the eastern side where there are many boats to choose from. However, the Lady Jacqueline is a perfect choice and you need look no further. Her advantage, being a mono hull cruiser is that she is faster and more manoeuvrable than the pontoon houseboats, the disadvantage is that she is not as wide as them with the huge decks that they have.

The Lady Jacqueline boasts facilities such as a Garmin GPS navigational equipment, spacious upper deck with bar, sunbathing deck, a fully air conditioned saloon, colour TV and DVD home theatre, a selection of books, novels, video and games, and a Jacuzzi. It also includes an 18 ft. tender boat with 90hp Yamaha engine for Game Viewing, Fishing and Sunset Cruises, which can take up to 10 people. An additional tender can be arranged (at an extra cost).
